# License

Data Relay Link is **source available, not open source**. Current distributions are licensed under the **Data Relay Source Available License 1.0**, except where a specific file or third-party component states a different license.

## Free and permitted use

You may use Data Relay Link free of charge for:

* personal use
* education and non-commercial research
* evaluation and testing
* internal commercial use
* internal source-code modification for permitted uses
* customer-owned deployments where the customer directly controls and uses the deployment
* paid installation, integration, migration, maintenance, training, or support for a customer-owned deployment, provided Data Relay Link itself is not resold or operated as a managed service

## Productization is not permitted

Without a separate written commercial license from Data Relay Labs, you may not:

* resell or sublicense Data Relay Link
* commercially redistribute the original or a modified version as a standalone product
* OEM, embed, bundle, or integrate Data Relay Link or substantial portions of its source code into a commercial product or appliance
* white-label, rename, rebrand, or fork Data Relay Link for commercial productization
* operate or offer Data Relay Link functionality as SaaS, MSP, hosted, shared, or multi-tenant service for third parties
* use Data Relay Link or a substantial portion of its source code to create, improve, or maintain a competing or substantially similar product or service
* remove or obscure copyright, license, attribution, or trademark notices
* describe the project as OSI-approved open-source software

## Separate commercial license

Resale, OEM/embedding, white-labeling, commercial redistribution, derivative commercial products, SaaS/MSP/hosted offerings, competitive-product rights, or other productization may be permitted only under a **separate written commercial license** granted by Data Relay Labs.

## Why it is called source available

The license places restrictions on productization, competing products, and SaaS/MSP use. Because those use restrictions are not compatible with the OSI Open Source Definition, Data Relay Link is described as **source available**, not open source.
